SALUT, BIENVENUE À TOUS!
My name is Robin and I am a Psychology major at FRCC. I am currently in pursuit of a PhD, but have only just begun. I am a thirty-year-old mother of two boys, and a bonus mom to my nephew. And let me tell you, going back to school as a busy boy mom, a bit later in life, certainly has its challenges. But I am grateful to have the chance! This semester, I had the great privilege of studying French in FRE 111. I decided, after many years of wishing and hoping and waiting, to begin learning the language. I hope to take my family to France for a little graduation present when I am finished with school!

FRE 111 FINAL PORTFOLIO
On this site, you will find three of my final projects for FRE 111. Learning about French culture and the many French-speaking countries across the globe was one of my favorite elements of this course. Being so, if you scroll down below, you will find a project I completed regarding French-influenced culture, specifically that of Luxenbourg! I also loved learning how to use phrases and language to describe my daily routine, so, I included the link to my end-of-chapter video project, pour "la routine quotidienne." Lastly, you will find a most enjoyable project...that of cuisine française! I had the opportunity to learn how to make sweet AND savory crêpes in class, but for this assignment, I included a smoothie recipe that I tried out!

I came into this course, excited to learn about France and learn to speak fluently (sure, I still have a ways to go, but this class brilliantly helped me get on my way!). Even though pronunciation was by far one of the greatest challenges for me--perhaps because I began my foreign language studies in Spanish, I found myself improving with practice. As you browse through my projects, you may notice the shaky, mispronunciation of several words, but you will also find great improvement as well! Grammar was one area of learning that intimidated me, but I was pleased to discover how much of a knack for it I ended up having by the end of the semester!

One of my favorite outer-curricular learning I partook in was listening to French artists and watching French movies and television. I also kept a box of flashcards handy next to my bed and desk so that I could study vocabulary. These were important skills for me to keep up on, the weeks that I did not do these things, I struggled significantly more. I hope you enjoy this portfolio, all the best!

Bisous, bisous,
Robin.

La Routine Quotidienne
For this project, I created a short film showing what my daily routine looks like. This was the hardest project for me, pronunciation is not my strength! But it was still my favorite project, nonetheless, because it challenged me and I feel like this project jumpstarted a deeper understanding of the French language.

This project was fun for me, but not my favorite. Cooking is something I am good at but I do not LOVE to cook. However, I do love food! So, learning about French cuisine was delightful. I especially love my new favorite word, "le pamplemousse" which means "grapefruit" in English.
FINAL THOUGHTS
My FRE 111 course taught me a lot about myself. It encouraged me to speak up when I was insecure. It taught me that mistakes only make us better. And learning a foreign language is HARD. But fully worth it, also. I believe that I did my absolute best to participate and include my voice in the conversation. The days I was silent are the days I struggled more. I am grateful for my supportive classmates and teacher that helped me be successful in this course! I am leaving this semester with my head held high, excited to continue learning this lovely language that captured my heart.

Merci beaucoup, au revoir!
